Being a Reputable and Respectable Senator and a loyal Party member, Senator Danjuma Goje Representing Gombe Central has withdrawn from the race of Senate President of the 9th Assembly and throwing his weight and support behind Senator Ahmed Lawan who happens to be APC's preferred candidate for the job.

Mr Danjuma Goje was said to have reached this decision after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa on thursday..

The former Gombe State governor was at the Villa with an entourage of his colleagues and Senator Ahmed Lawan.

Sitting Governor of Kaduna State, Governor Nasir El-Rufai brokered the said meeting between the Senators before they came to a truce and unanimously agreed to go with Ahmed Lawan for Senate President.

In his address to state house correspondents after the meeting at the state house Mr Danjuma Goje Said he decided to step down because he was adviced to do so for party interest.

He specifically informed the press that President Buhari advised him to drop his Personal Ambition for Party interest and allow Lawan who has been chosen by the party to contest the Position.

It is of interest to note that Senator Goje is not the only lawmaker who has been opposing the preferred candidate of the APC for the job just as the APC would be very careful to avoid a repeat of similar occurence at the 8th Senate that produced Bukola Saraki against Party's decision.

However, it is noteworthy to know that Senator Ali Ndume from Borno has refused to step down for Lawan despite threats of expulsion from the party.

The election for Senate president holds Tuesday June 11th.

Subsequent details would be brought to light as they unfold. Please stay with www.omascope.com political desk as we keep tabs on who emerges the Next Senate president of the 9th Assembly.
