In attendance at the event were Donald Duke, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Mrs Modupe Adelaja and other top politicians from both the ruling APC and the opposing PDP.

Obasanjo was of the opinion that, based on the various challenges facing the country, the coalition was set up to mobilize Nigerians for peace, unity, security, stability, love, welfare and the wellbeing of vulnurable Nigerians, particularly youth and women who, according to him, has been at the receiving end of national crises.

Some reasons he also gave for the Coalition were, disrespect for the federal character as enshrined in the constitution, the spate of killings and violence across the country, and the parlous state of the economy under the Present Buhari led APC Administration
